Description
What is Kumbha Vivaha Puja?
Kumbha Vivaha Puja is a traditional Vedic ritual performed to eliminate doshas that cause delays or disruptions in marriage. In this ritual, the girl symbolically marries a Kalash (sacred water pot), which represents Lord Vishnu. This symbolic marriage transfers the malefic influences of Manglik Dosha, Kalasarpa Dosha, or Naga Dosha into the pot. The ritual acts as a powerful spiritual remedy to enable a trouble-free human marriage in the future.
Benefits of Kumbha Vivaha Puja
- Removes Manglik and Naga Dosha from the girl’s birth chart.
- Neutralizes the ill effects of Kalasarpa Dosha and delayed marriage yogas.
- Clears karmic backlog that may be causing repeated failures in alliances.
- Protects the girl from troubled or mismatched marital experiences.
- Ensures divine blessings from Lord Vishnu for a successful real marriage.
- Balances emotional energy and prepares for a blissful wedded life.
Best Time to Perform Kumbha Vivaha Puja
- Fridays and Shukla Paksha Panchami or Ekadashi are preferred.
- During auspicious nakshatras like Rohini, Uttara, or Hasta.
- In months like Margashira, Magha, or Phalguna for marriage remedies.
- Venus Hora or Shukra Lagna is considered most effective.
- Muhurtham must be astrologically chosen based on the girl’s dosha and horoscope.
Kumbha Vivaha Pooja Procedure
The puja begins with Sankalpam, where the girl’s name, gotra, and purpose are recited. It is followed by Ganapathi Pooja, Navagraha Pooja, and Naga Devata Pooja to invoke planetary blessings. A Kalash, filled with holy water, turmeric, mango leaves, and a coconut, is decorated with kumkum and dressed in traditional attire to represent the symbolic groom – Lord Vishnu. The girl then performs rituals such as Kanyadaan, Mangalsutra Dharanam, and Saptapadi (seven steps), symbolically marrying the Kalash with full Vedic chanting.
After the symbolic marriage, the Kalash is either immersed in a sacred river or water body or placed under a Peepal tree. If a Homa (fire ritual) is included, mantras are chanted to burn away the residual karma. The puja concludes with aarti, blessings, prasadam distribution, and daan (charity) to Brahmins or the poor. After this ritual, the girl is considered free from doshas and karmic obstacles, making way for a happy, timely, and harmonious human marriage.
