Pooja Procedure

On the day of NamaKaranam pooja, the baby and mother are given a ritual bath. The child is dressed in a new clothes. The pandit perform pooja followed by a havan and offer prayers to all the gods. The five elements, the spirit of the forefathers, and invokes them to bless and protect the child. The pandit places a cloth on which betel leaves, turmeric, lentils, and Moong dal are kept along with the child’s horoscope in front of the image of the deity. The Father whispers the chosen name in the right ear of the baby using a betel leaf. After finishing the Namkaran Puja, friends and relatives bless the child.
